Last week I went to the wonderful Workers Gallery in Ynyshir for the launch of their Astronomical Art exhibition, which runs until May 17th.
On display are the amazing works of Chris Williams, mainly astonishing sculptures of black holes among st other things.
As well as the stunning astro-photography of Nick Hart; which is even more impressive when you talk to him and realise all his pictures are taken from his home observatory in the CITY of Newport! Light pollution doesn’t stand a chance against him!
And rounding it out were some of my constellation pieces, which were ingeniously displayed, although not expertly photographed…oops!
As part of the launch the National Museum Wales Geology Dept were nice enough to loan us some meteorites which I brought along and they went down a treat, I did feel quite cool carrying space rocks in my bag, even if I did get there on a bus 🙂 And there was wonderful banana and walnut cake, yum!
Also on display in another part of the gallery was work by the resident artist Gayle Rogers and the members of the gallery such as Sion Llwellyn, Glyndwr Brimacombe, and Melanie Erza amongst others
.
So if you find yourself anywhere in the RCT area in the next month I definitely recommend a visit to the exhibition. If you’re a little later then that, I don’t know what their next exhibition is, but I’m sure it will be great, so get yourself down there anyway!
