I am delighted to finally be able to offer some ring making workshops! I have been asked sooooo many times over the years, but I simply don’t have the space so wooohoo for The Old Library Cafe in Caerphilly which are going to let us use their private room and have some very very yummy cake and drinks 🙂
It will be a relaxed but productive day and you will leave with your own handmade silver ring, some good memories, and a belly full of cake 🙂 Whats not to love!
The workshop will start at 1pm with your choice of drink and an introduction to what we will be doing and who I am, as well as some health and safety stuff, as we will be using blow torches and hammers. I will then demo the ring making and we’ll get you started on you making your very own ring! You will have the choice of a ripple, bark or hammered ring or we can leave it plain in either 3mm or 5mm tall. You will also have the option to add text to the inside of the ring if you want.
During the process there is some downtime while we are waiting for example for the pickle (acid) to clean the ring after soldering, which will be a great time for cake and or any questions you have!
Included in the price aside from memories is the sterling silver ring you will make (rrp £70-95), two drinks and a slice of cake.
If you would like to make a ring as a present for someone, please either borrow a ring of theirs for the day or contact me in advance and I will send you out a ring sizer you can measure them with.
A little relevant information about me, I have been working as a goldsmith since 2011 from my home studio. In a former life I was a secondary physics teacher, a Montessori teacher and an EFL teacher so I’m really excited to get to teach again! Some practical information – The Old Library Cafe has parking just outside and in the adjacent park, and is easily accessible from either Aber or Caerphilly train station as well as quite a few buses running along the Nantgarw Road. I’m not sure exactly what time we will finish, it will depend on how you take to the process and I don’t want to rush anyone but the venue does close at 5.30, I don’t see us taking that long though, I’d say expect to be done 4ish.
